Checked on 21 September 2026. Apps change their menus: if a step no longer
matches, let us know. Menu names are given as they appear
in English; they may differ slightly from one app version to another.
Panoralia draws your route from the file your watch or app recorded. It reads
GPX, FIT, TCX, IGC, KML and KMZ directly: take whichever your service offers,
there is nothing to convert.
Three things to know before you look
One file per day, preferably. A two-day outing means two files, one
per day: each day then gets its own colour on the map. A single file for the whole
outing works too, you simply lose the distinction between days.
A recorded track carries the time, and that is what gives the poster
its duration and places your photos automatically. A track drawn afterwards has no time:
geotagged photos still place themselves, the others are placed by hand.
If your activity is on Strava, export it as GPX from the strava.com
website, see below. Direct connection to Strava is awaiting approval from Strava. Almost
every watch and app can send its activities to Strava: when a service exports nothing,
that is often the shortest route.
1. You recorded the outing
Strava
Direct connection to Strava is awaiting approval from Strava. In the
meantime, export the file.
From the strava.com website (the mobile app does
not export):
From the connect.garmin.com website, on a computer. The Garmin Connect app
does not export activities, a choice made by Garmin.
“Activities” menu, then “All Activities”, and open
the outing.
Click the gear icon at the top right.
Choose “Export Original” (a FIT, the watch's own file), or
“Export to GPX”. Both work.
The original export sometimes arrives in a .zip archive: open it,
the .fit is inside.
Apple Watch (Workout and Fitness apps)
Apple offers no track export in Fitness, neither on the watch nor on the
iPhone. Three workarounds, from the simplest to the heaviest:
Go through Strava. Install Strava on the iPhone and allow it to read
Health: your workouts are copied there automatically, then Panoralia's Strava button does
the rest. This is the route we recommend.
An export app. Free utilities on the App Store read your workouts in
Health and turn them into a GPX, for example GPX Export, GPX Workouts or
HealthFit. Open the app, choose the outing, export as GPX, save to Files.
The full Health export, with nothing to install: Health, your photo at
the top right, “Export All Health Data”. The .zip archive you
get contains a workout-routes folder with one GPX per workout. It is large,
often several hundred megabytes.
Samsung Galaxy Watch (Samsung Health)
On an Android phone:
Open Samsung Health, then the exercise in your history.
Scroll to the bottom, or open the “⋮” menu.
Choose “Export to GPX file”.
Only outings recorded with GPS can be exported, not those the watch detected
on its own. The iPhone version of Samsung Health has no such export: go through Strava.
Suunto, Coros, Polar, Amazfit, Huawei, Fitbit and Pixel Watch
Suunto: in the app, open the activity, “⋯” menu,
“Export”, then GPX or FIT.
Coros: in the app, open the activity, share or export icon at the top
right, then GPX, TCX or FIT.
Polar: on the flow.polar.com website, open the training session,
“Export session” menu, then GPX or TCX.
Amazfit and Xiaomi (Zepp app): open the activity, “⋯”
menu or share icon, “Export” as GPX. Workouts without GPS cannot be
exported.
Huawei (Huawei Health): no file export. Link your account to Strava in
the app's settings, then use Panoralia's Strava button.
Fitbit and Pixel Watch: the TCX export from the fitbit.com website works
(activity page, “⋯” menu, “Export as TCX”). Otherwise,
Strava.
We could not check each of these apps as carefully as the ones above. The
principle is the same everywhere: open the activity, look for “Export” or “Share”, take
GPX, FIT or TCX.
Komoot
From the komoot.com website:
Your profile, then “Tours”, and open the outing.
“⋯” menu next to the title, then “Download file”.
Take “GPX (Recorded tour)”: it is the route you actually followed,
with the time. “GPX (Planned route)” is the intended route, without time.
In the app: open the tour, share icon or “⋯” menu,
then “Export as GPX”. Some export features in the app are for Premium
subscribers only.
AllTrails
From the alltrails.com website, signed in to your account:
Your profile, “Activities” tab, and open the outing.
“⋯” menu, then “Download route”.
Choose the “GPX Track” format.
The free account is enough for your own activities. Downloading routes from
the catalogue and some maps requires AllTrails+.
Wikiloc
Open your trail, on the website or in the app.
“Download” button (green, at the top right on the website).
Take the GPX file. The KML “for Google Earth” works too.
Visorando
In the app:
Menu at the top left, “My tracks”, and open the outing.
“+” button at the bottom right, then “Download GPX”.
The file lands in Downloads on Android, and in Files › On My iPhone ›
Visorando on iPhone. On the website, the track page has a blue
“Download GPX” button.
Paragliding and free flight: XContest, XCTrack, varios
A flight is recorded as IGC, and Panoralia reads it as is.
XContest: sign in, open the flight page, then the download link
for the IGC track.
XCTrack, Flymaster, Syride, Skytraxx and other varios: the IGC file
of each flight is in the device memory or in its sync software. It is the same file
as the one sent to XContest.
Panoralia fills in “Paragliding” when the file declares its flight
class; otherwise you name the activity yourself. We have not checked every vario.
2. You did not record it: draw the route
No track, but you know where you went? Draw the route on a map and export it. The file will
have no time: no duration on the poster, and your photos without GPS will need to be placed
by hand. Everything else works.
gpx.studio, our recommendation
Free, in the browser, no account, with a hiking map and trails.
“Route” tool (the pencil), then click on the map, point after point:
the line follows the paths between two clicks.
“File” menu, “Export”: a GPX.
Other drawing tools
Google Earth (earth.google.com): Projects, new project,
“Draw line or shape”, then in the project menu “Export as KML
file”. The KML or KMZ you get is read as is.
Google My Maps (mymaps.google.com): draw a line, then the map's
“⋮” menu, “Export to KML/KMZ”. Google Maps itself, the
directions app, exports nothing.
Garmin Connect: Training & Planning,
“Courses”, create the course, then “Export” as GPX or
FIT.
Komoot: plan the tour, then “Download file”, “GPX (Planned
route)”, as above.
Strava: the route builder exports GPX, but it is for subscribers
only.
Visorando, AllTrails, Wikiloc, OpenRunner, IGNrando': all have a route
builder and a GPX export button on the route page.
3. Getting the file to Panoralia
This is often where things get stuck, especially on a phone. Panoralia reads the file from
wherever you find it when you click “Browse”: so it needs to be saved somewhere you know.
On iPhone, choose “Save to Files” when exporting, then a folder that is
easy to find, On My iPhone or iCloud Drive. In Panoralia, “Browse” opens
Files in the same place.
On Android, exports go to Downloads. “Browse” gives direct
access to it.
From a computer to the phone, or the other way round: AirDrop between
Apple devices, or simply an email you send yourself, with the file attached. On iPhone,
press and hold the attachment and choose “Save to Files”.
A computer is still the most comfortable, especially with many photos:
the file lands in Downloads and can be dropped onto the upload area.
